I think there was something in the Smithsonian about his convoluted attempt to hide enslaved workers during dinners by using crude mechanical devices. They only worked with the slaves he hid in closets, doors, and wall panels. The farcical technology of an Enlightenment “inventor.” Like today’s tech “geniuses.” Hidden labor.
